“CLASS HATRED.”

LABOUR CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS. PREFERS CHURCH WORK. GOUL3URN (N.S.W.) April 15. Alderman A. A. Turnbull, one of the selected Labour candidates for Goulburn, has withdrawn from the contest, ‘‘chiefly because lie prefers to devote his spare time to church and Sunday-school work.’ This work, he says, keeps him away from party bickering and olass hatred. The local branch is annoyed with Aiderman Turnbull for notifying the central executive direct, instead of asking the Goulburn. exeoative for permission, and it has been decided to ask him to pay his share bf expenses incurred to date. Alderman Turnbull gives as an added reason for his withdrawal that his recent promotion to the position of chief industrial overseer : n the Prisons Department at Goulburn had set _ him thinking. He stood for moderation in all things, and he oould not countenance the extreme views expressed by some people, which only stirred up industrial strife. "If I get a bill for expenses alleged to have been expended on my behalf." declared Alderman Turnbull. "I will nave no hesitation in consigning the document to the flames. lam under no obligation to the league."
