ANelson oonre9p°n<]ent reports the death of Mr A. J. Redgrave, a retired civil servant and the father of Rev. F. Rodgravo. Rev. H. L Goldthorpo and Mrs Gohithorpo left Kltham this week for Wellington, where they will make a short stay prior to sailing for England. I’he .Marton Horticultural Society’s Show held thia week was visited by Mr J. A. .-^ a nil - lS * ;on North, v/ho, with Mr C. Parkinson, of Marton founded the society 30 years ago. The friends of Mr John Donaldson, Rnngiotu, will be pleased to learn that he is progressing satisfactorily after his recent serious operation at a private hospital in Palmerston North. R® v - •Coles, who is expected to arrive from England in July, will assume the duties of Rev. C. R. Kreeft, who left Wanganui recently to take up his appointment as vicar of the .Anglican Church at Hunterville. Mr Ronald Symo, whose resignation from the position of classics assistant at the Auckland University College was received at a meeting of the council, leaves in August for Oxford, where he will take a postgraduate course. Rev. T. R. Edwards and Mrs Edwards, of Southend, England, who are making a tour of the Dominion, are at present visiting Palmerston North. Mr Edwards will occupy the pulpit of .Eqimanued Congregational Church to-morrow morning. Mr A. A. Luckham, formerly Resident Agent at Aitutaki, in the Cook Group, has been appointed to succeed Mr G. N. Morris, of the Justice Department, who has completed his term as Resident Commissioner of Niue Island., Mr N. ,J. Jenkin (Melbourne), vice-pre-sident of the Methodist laymen’s missionary movement of Victoria and lay secretary of the Methodist Auxiliary of Victoria and Tasmania, is. visiting the Dominion. Mr R. R. Holmes, win died in Auckland this weak, aged 79 years, had been a resident of New Zealand since 1880, coming from Driffield, Yorkshire. He was one of the first members of the Newmarket Borough Council. Messrs K. Eglinton and W. Carruthers, who attended the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union a 3 representaof the Manawatu Union, returned to Palmerston North last - evening. Mr A. Hannay, president of the Manawatu Union, was unable to make the trip. Captain A. R.' W. Cuttis, M.C., late Militia, formerly private secretary to Lord Jellicoe when Governor-General of New Zealand, has been appointed to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers as a captain, 11th Hussars, with seniority of September 10th t 1923. Advice from Scotland reports tho death at Glasgow on March 26 of Private John C. Haldane, late of tho Sixth Reinforcements, N-Z.E.F. The deceased soldier was visiting New Zealand when war was declared, and immediately enlisted. He returned to Scotland in 1919, and since then had been in various hospitals there. A well-known identity and a colonist of seventy years’ standing passed away at Wellington Hospital on Thursday, in the person of Mr George Matthews, at the ago of 83 years. Associated in his youth with the development of Central and Northern Otago, he held for very many years the position of curator of tho Newtown Museum and Library. He retired two years ago from tbe C}tj Cpuncil, Mr Arthur Morton, president of tho National Dpiry Association of New Zealand, has arrived in England (states a London correspondent). He will probably mako a stay of about six months, during which timo he intends to visit the northern part of Europe, including Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and other Baltio States. His visit is a business one and he is accompanied by Mr C. Dahl, of Palmerston North. They are representing the National Dairy Association and their visit is in connection with its interests.
