RATES OF EXCHANGE.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND.
Received May 1, 12.35 p.m. SYDNEY, May 1. The Jlerald, referring to the high exrhuhge rates between Australia and New Zealand, says: “If gold is procurable in New Zealand it will cost a lot less than two per cent, to transfer it to Australia. In such case a return vo a rate of exchange upproachirit* that between Sydney and Western Australia would be probable. The Herald gives as a reason for the high rate of exchange between the • commonwealth and . the Dominion the fact that goods *aken to Now Zealand from Australia far exceeded those taken to Australia from New Zealand. “Practically we have dent twice as much us wc have received.'’ The paper adds: “Some adjustment- has been made through London but insufficient to correct ihe exchange.” Press Association.
