RONGOTEA CLUB

The Rongotea Club held a practice shoot on Tuesday evening, the chief scores being:— Total.

and the welfare of tho boarders. Miss Gilford, who was hero temporarily, left for Wanganui Girls’ C’ollego just before the reassembling of school and we were without a homo science teacher. Miss Phyllis Jull, of Rangiora High School, who accepted an appointment, has just written to suy that unexpected developments there have made it impossible to come without the most serious disorganisation of that school, and this she is naturally unwilling to cause. Two old girls have immediately volunteered their assistance to help us through, and this I shall gratefully accept. Technical college classes promise to be more successful than ever. There have been 55 enrolments in classes other than art. The classes in commercial subjects have, liad to be increased in number, while classes in matriculation subjects and in junior English and arithmetic are well supported and aro doing good work. Tho organising work of Mr Ross is fruitful of excellent results. The experience of endeavouring to re-establish art classes by appointing Miss C. J. Callanan is being abundantly justified, 34 pupils being in attendance, while about oO others are waiting to join classes in pottery. I recommend the purchase of a Kiln and necessary apparatus at a cost of about £SO, an outluy that can to some considerable extent bo recovered by special fees and by increased capitation earnings. Concerning the school terms tho department recommended that the remaining 34 weeks of the school year be divided into two terms of 18 and 16 weeks respectively, a fortnight’s vacation to take between August 15 and August 23. The board adopted this recommendation. In re-adjusting the tees of boarders, it was decided to charge £25 for the ensuing term of 18 weelts, tho charge to be made for the second term of 16 weeks t-o bo decided at a later date when, the amount of the department's assistance, if any, had been made known to tho board. The sanitary inspector wrote stating that the Fergusson street buildings needed urgent attention. 'The appointment of a home science mistress was left, in the hands of Mr Wild. The director and Mesdames Baxltrop and Tingey were appointed as a committee to report to tho board regarding increased accommodation at Braeburn. An ex-Feilding girl. Nurse Lily Anderson, oil the staff of the Palmerston North hospital, has passed her final hospital examination with first-class honours. One of the commercial agents of the Railway Department under its new system, Mr A. McNeil, paid a visit toFeilding this week.
