BUILDING ACTIVITY

THIRTEEN HOUSE PERMITS FOR MONTH. The value of the building permits issued by the engineer’s department of the Borough Council for the month of April up to noon to-day was £16,046 ss. In all 46 permits wero issued and as usual a large percentage . of them . comprises small amotils for alterations and additions lo exiesting premises. The largest individual amount was £2OOO for a six-roomed residence to be erected at tho corner of Russell street and Stanley avenue, while another permit relates to the expenditure of £1265 for alterations to business premises in Broadway. Thirteen jxirmite related to residences—chiefly five-roomed dwellings costing about £BOO each, while over half a dozen permits for the building of garages had been issued.

For the same month of last year tho value of permits issued was £22,231 17s, including 19 houses. Last month’s figures were: £25,893 15s, including 19 houses.
