WOMEN’S NOTES.

Tho friends of Mrs C. J. Gill, of Union street, will regret to learn that she is still indisposed and unable to leave her room.

Miss E. Spelman, of Massey street, who recently underwent an extremely dangerous operation, is now well on the way to recovery.

The death of Madame Zola, wife of the celebrated French novelist, Emile Zola, is reported by cable from Paris. Emile Zola wus aphyxiated by gas in 1902. when his wife narrowly escaped death. Immense editions of his works liuve been published.

The weekly dance in aid of the children’s Christmas tree funds of the M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday, there: being a large attendance.. Excellent music was provided and those present, despite the sultry weather, spent a most enjoyable evening. A dainty supper was provided, and dancing was continued to a late hour. Messrs L. Catterick und D; Dilks were M.C.’s. WEDDINGS. SAVAGE-BROWN.

A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Church this afternoon, when Miss Muudelecn, second daughter ot Mr and Mrs W. Brown, of 5 Morris street, wus joined in tho bonds of matrimony to Mr Hoy Edward, eldest son of Air and Mrs E. T. Savage, of Bronte street, Nelson. The contracting parties are well known local!}' and there was a large assembly of well-wishers at the church to witness the ceremony, which wus performed by the Rev. Air Bredin, of St. David’s. The b:ide was attired in a beautiful gown of brocaded satin marocain with georgette and pearl trimmings, being caught at tho side with a large pearl ornament, while the train was of the saJtte material lined with pule pink georgette. She wore the customury veil with spray of orange blossoms and curried a shower bouquet of roses, chrysanthemums, bouvurdia und maidenhuir fern. Attending the bride were Misses Alice und Irena Brown, sisters of the bride, the chief bridesmaid being attired in a gown of apricot satin marocain with rosebud trimmings, silver bandeaux on hair, stockings to match and bluck patent leather shoes, while the latter was gowned in silvery blue satin marocain, trimmed with rose buds, silver bandeaux on hair, stockings to match and patent leather shoes. The former curried a shower bouquet of apricot roses and chrysanthemums and the second bridesmaid a bouquet of roses, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. Little Aliss Josephine Fleming, daughter of Air and Airs E. K. Fleming, formerly of Florence Avenue, acted as flower girl, being dressed in strawberry satin marocain, silver baud on hair, white shoes and stockings, and carried a basket of autumn leaves and violets. Master Leonard Brown, son of Air and Airs N. I. W. Brown, Rongotea, and nephew of the bride, was train bearer, wearing a suit of white velvet. Supporting the bridegroom wus Air Augustus Griffon, of Nelson, as best man and Air Percy Daniell, of Wellington, and formerly of Palmerston North, as groomsman. The bride was presented with a basket of autumn leaves and violets as she came out of the church —a parting gift by Helen Ray Fleming. At the termination of the ceremony, some 70 friends and relatives : were the guests of Airs Brown at the wedding breakfast, the hostess being gowned in a coat frock of mole marocain, heavily braided with black hat and furs to match. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a set of ivory-backed hair brushes; and the bridegroom's present to the bride a string of pearls, to the chief bridesmaid a fountain pen, to the second bridesmaid a string of pearls and to the flower girl a Nellie Stewart bangle. The happy couple were tho recipients of numerous cheques anil valuable presents. They left in the laic afternoon by ear for Wanganui and New Plymouth, where the honeymoon will be spent, the bride’s travelling dress being a military costume of putty panama cloth, small black panne hut witii apricot trimmings to match her jumper, stockings to tone and black shoes. Mr and Airs Savage will in future reside at Island Buy, Wellington. RICH AR DSON—BALFOUR. A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Church, Palmerston North, on Monday, April 13th, when Elizabeth Scott, third daughter of Mr und Mrs Balfour, of Seandia street, Palmerston North, was married to Sidney Walter, youngest, son of Airs A. Richardson, of Seandia street. Rev. G. T. Brown, ALA., was the oliieiating minister. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a cream satin frock with an over dress of silk lace caught at the side with a j>carl ornament. She wore the. usual veil and orange blossom and carried a bouquet of white roses and aspurugus fern. Site was attended by her sister, Miss Flo. Balfour, us chief bridesmaid and by Aliss Lena Todd, her niece. The former wore a frock of flesh pink satin and black fiat, and carried a bouquet of pink roses and asparagus fern. The lutter wore an apricot crepe-de-chine frock trimmed with apricot ribbon to match and small black hat, und carried a posy of roses with long streamers. Little Jessie Shader, the flower girl, a*ul niece of the bridegroom, looked sweet in a lavender crope-de-chine frock trimmed with ribbon and little blnck hat. .Site carried a posy of lavender asters und long streamers. The bridegroom was attended by Air James O’Neal as best man, and Air Janies Robb acted as groomsman. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold bracelet and to the bridesmaids wristlet watches. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a wristlet watch. Tho bride’s mother wore a cinnamon brown marocain costume und marabout and black hat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black duchess satin dress and hat to match. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Foresters’ Hall when about 150 guests were entertained and the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple left later for Wellington midst showers of confetti and good wishes. The bride travelled in a fawn costume and bluck satin bat. Air and Airs Richardson were the recipients of many valuable presents including quite a number of cheques. SNADDON-HUBBARD. The wedding was celebrated at St. Andrew's Church on April 15 of Aliss Alyrtle Snuddon, late of the staff of Palmerston North Hospital., and Air George Hubbard, of England. Rev. G. T. Brown officiated Tho bride was gowned in cream brocaded crepe-dc-chine finished with silver roses at the wuist. She wore a graceful veil and carried a sheaf of lilies. Tho bridesmaid, Aliss E. B. Smith, wore u lemon georgette frock beaded in black and a black bat to match and carried a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums. The best man was Air Ron. Anderson, of Tuihnpe. After the re-, ception the happy couple left for Wanganui, the bride wearing a smart fawn costume and hat to match. JUAIBLE SALE. A successful jumble sale in aid of the Willard Home funds wus held in the Orient Hall yesterday. A lurge assortment of new and second-hand goods wan displayed and the ladies in charge were kept busy disposing of the articles to numerous buyers. As a result of the sale the funds benefited considerably.
