BOLTING HORSES.

ONE RIDER ESCAPES, ONE DEAD ROCKHAMPTON, April 14. The horse that William Douglas was riding at the picnic meeting at Alton Downs yesterday afternoon bolted and killed itself by dashing into a tree. Douglas was thrown heavily, but escaped with a severe shaking. Later on a similar accident had a different result. Alfred James Howlett, employed by the Bauhinia Shire Council at roadxnaking, left Springsure on horseback with a companion named McDonald. About two and a half miles out Howlett cantered ahead, and when AlcDonald came up his mate lay dead on the road. It is thought that he struck a tree.
