ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING ADJOURNED. The annual meeting lust night oi the Palmerston North branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society was not largely' attended and, due to this reason, tlie business' following the adoption of the report and abalunce-sheet was postponed to a later meeting. Mr L. Jjareomb presided. The annual report, as already published, having been adopted, together with the balance-sheet. Appreciation of the work of the secretary, Mr It. V. Lloyd, was voiced by Mr W. Turner, on whose motion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded that gentleman. The election of officers was then about to be proceeded with when, Mr Turner moved that the meeting be adjourned. In doing so he stressed the need for a strong committee, pointing out that the attendance at the meeting was small. The branch should do all that it could to stir up interest among sportsmen, and for that reason an attempt should be made to get as many as possible to attend. The motion was seconded by Mr J. 1). Smith and supported by the chairman.
Speaking from 25 years'’ connection with tho society, the secretary stated that sportsmen were either apathetic or saisfied with the way things were being run. At the present time there was more game available in the district than had been the case for many years past, and it was disappointing that, out of over 300 members, only nine were present at tile annual meeting. The motion way finally agreed to, Mr Turner intimating that he would circularise license-holders as to the new meeting.
