MOTOR ACCIDENT.
YOUNG MAN KNOCKED DOWN
FATAL INJURIES SUSTAINED.
As the result of being accidentally knocked down by a motor car in Main Street west shortly before eight o’clock lust evening, Ojive Tweeddale, a young man, died in hospital an hour later. Jleceased had been walking in the direction of the town and' had reached the West street intersection, where it is necessary to cross the road and railway lines in order to keep to tiie footpath, when tile car, which was driven by Mr W. White, a local taxi-driver, struck him, with the result that ho sustained a fractured s}iull, from which he succumbed later, in the hospital. It is understood that deceased was somewhat deaf and that the driver of ther car did not see him until a few yards off. Twenty-two years of age, deceased was a single man and worked in Taranaki. He had occasionally visited Palmerston North and at the time was stopping with his people in Campbell street. He had journeyed to Palmerston North at Easter time and had returned to Taranaki, imt subsequently came back to this town on Friday last. Au inquest will be he)d, but the date has not yet been fixed
