TERRIBLE CRIME.
ACID THROWN OVER WIFE. LONDON, April 23. Samuel Hudyon, prior to being sentenced at the Old Bailey to lour years for throwing sulphuric acid over his wife, whereby she lost the sight of one eye, and was otherwise permanently disfigured, dramatically declared; “What happened was tho climax of two years’ anguish. When I threw the acid I had no control over my physical actions. My mind was tortured and concentrated on my wife, the predominating thought being that I must take away what made her attractive to other men. I thought I would then have her to myself. I did not think of any other consequences'.” Hudson asserted that soon after their marriage his wife began going to dances with other men and he became heartbroken.
The judge, in summing up, said that most trivial reasons wero given for jealousy. The terrible action was without a shadow of justification,—A. and N.Z. cable.
