BOXING.
MEETING OF MANAWATU ASSOCLU TION, A mooting of the Manawatu Boxing Association was held on Friday evening. There were present: Messrs 11. E. Bennett (chairman), J. Stone, W. Randell, J. Purves and J. L. C. Merton (hou secretary). The secretary reported having attended, with Messrs Wutfchorn und Purves, the meeting of boxers on March 13, convened for the purpose of forming a club. The meeting decided to go ahead and get uu organisation moving on the lines of the old Zealandia Club, to he called the Manawatu Amateur Boxing Club, the association’s representatives having promised the loan of its equipment. The meeting confirmed the action of its delegates in attending and doing what they were able to in the matter. It was ulso decided to write the club wishing it every success, and also to the Scouts’ Association notifying it of the club’s bonulides in connection with the renting of the King street hall. Mr J. Louisson was appointed representative of the New Zealand Boxing Association f • the purposes of replacing the centre system representation. His duties will be to watch contests and report as to equipment, refereeing, purses, trophies, and generally as to how the contests are conducted. It was decided that some time in June the amateur try-outs be hold, the exact date to be fixed later. .Meanwhile, boxers could get into training. The annual meeting of the association will ho held on May 8.
Itwas reported that the nett takings at the MacDonald-Parker contest last year were £3ll 4s lid. The expenditure totalled £298 16s 3d. comprising MacDonald £95, Parker £95, 5 per cent, purse, New Zealand Council £lO, house expenses £l7 6s, rent £6 10s, advertising £4l 11s 6d, amateur trophies und expenses £25 18s, general £2 8s 6d, leaving a profit of £l2 8s Bd.
Tho following boxers wrote enquiring for matches, and it was decided in the meantime to hold the enquiries over as nothing could be done: Dick Loveridge (amateur light-weight N.Z. champion); S. Higgins (feather-weight); Basil Hooper (heavy-weight), C. Rivers (welter), A. Gordon (middle), Jack Humphries (writing from Napier), who knocked out Clinton in 1920; Jimmy Hill (7 years featherweight champion of Australia); Reg. Trovvern (who fought Purdy at Auckland); M. J. O’Brien (Wunganui), lightwelter; and Les Frank (Tokauui).
