RUGBY FOOTBALL.
WESTERN DEFEAT JACKEYTOWN
During the week-end a match was played between the junior representatives of Western United Club and the recently resuscitated Jackeytown Club. A fast, clean game was forthcoming, both teams displaying excellent form, but the advantage lay with Western who emerged with a margin of 11 points, the scores at conclusion being Western United 14, Jackeytown 3. For the winners Herrny (2) and Algar scored tries, Butler adding the major points on one occasion, while Ormond opened the side’s scoring account with a penalty goal. Mr W. Rowlands controlled the gome, which was contested on th# Jackeytown area. ... REFEREES MEET. The weekly meeting of the Manawata Rugby Referees’ Association was hold on Friday evening when Various sections of the laws were read by tho chairman, Air C. W. White, thus opening up a discussion which should prove of undoubted .value to local referees, more particularly the younger ones, when the season gets under way. The special instructions which have been drawn up by the local association were also reviewed, while the secretary, Mr E. W. Low, who attended the recent conference of referees at Wanganui, interpreted the remits which had been presented at that gathering, an interesting and instructive evening resulting.
