[Published by Arrangement.] SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. Christchurch enjoys an unbroken chopping week.—Mr Regler, sales manager ror Messrs Reece and Co., says: — ••In reply to your inquiry, it certainly appears that Saturday is by majority ruling throughout .New Zealand as the best day. 'ine present position is not affected in any way by reason of Saturday closing, provided that a late night is held on Friday. The biggest argument in favour ol Saturday closing is, that the 'through the middle of the week holiday, it amounts to two Monday mornings' in the week, and a sales manager knows there is loss in efficiency both as regards the sales and the satisfactory service to the costumer by tho staff. The old bug-bear to keep open your store for the farmer’s convenience is gone, and the old ‘end of week’ marketing by the farmers was probably necessary 20 years ago. Today lie can market every day in tho week, the motor car and other quick means of transport making this possible. There is no doubt to my mind that Christchurch or Canterbury in general would not go back to the middle of the week half-holiday.”
