FATAL ACCIDENT.
TO POWER BOARD EMPLOYEE. FALL FROM TRANSMISSION POLE. A fatal accident to an employee of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Hoard occurred near Feilding this morning. The victim, a, linesman named John. Murphy, a married man residing at 108 Ferguson street, l Ptalmerston North, fell from a transmission pole on which he was working. He was badly hurt and conveyed to the Palmerston North Hospital but died before admission. It is understood that tho cause of death was a fractured skull.
When picked up the man was conscious though greatly injured on the face and head, and he complained of pains in the stomach. A Press Association telegram from Feilding etates that there were indications that the man had touched a livo cable. He waa not wearing a life belt at the time though the Power Board’s instructions make this compulsory. Much sympathy will be extended the widow and two children —aged 8 and 11 years respectively—of deceased. The late Mr Murphy was 42 years of age. The funeral will leave his late residence at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
