P. COLEMAN WINS BIG EVENT

The Feilding Motor Club’s motor cycle raco meeting was successfully conducted on tho Feilding racecourse yesterday afternoon, there being a largo attendance of tho public. The Feilding Band was in attendance and played a number of selections. Some excellent racing was witnessed on tho well conditioned track and no accidents

occurred to mar the success of the meeting. Those present included Hon. D. 11. Guthrie, patron of tho club. Mr 11. B.

Burrell, the president, capably attended to the sturting arrangements, and Messrs L. Miller and L. Gill handled the secretarial work. The New Zealand heavyweight championship, which was ullotted to this meeting for decision, was won by P. Coleman, of Palmerston North, and he wus presented by Hon. D. 11. Guthrie with the cup and blue ribbon. Mr E. C. Gaisford presented Coleman with the New Zealand Motor Union’s certificate, and 11. Moller was presented with the Feilding Classic Cup. The first race was cancelled on account of the few entries. The events resulted as follow: Sports Handicap of 10 laps: C. E. Lowe, 8 h.p. (60sec.) 1; H. McCready 7-9 R.p. (30sec.) 2; D. C. Managh 7 h.p. (20sec.) 3. Also started: P. Coleman (scr.), G. C. Stratton (lOsec.), O. Shakespeare (20sec.), 11. Moller (45see.), E. Edwards (60sec.), J. E. Crockett (60sec.), R. J. Jones (70scc.), W. Viggars (70sec.), L. B. Southward (70scc.), B. Dewe (80sec.), G. W. Dixon (80sec.), and A. Darker (90see). Time, 9min. 51 4-ssec. The winner led from the limit man in the sixth lap and was never headed. Coleman and Stratton went out of the race in the early stages. Southward (25iec). Time, 1 9.19 4-5. Moller lead half-way round the I ninth lap from Arnott In the early running, it looked ns if Dewe would win. but some trouble compelled him to withdraw. Moller had no difficulty in passing the bulk of the-field after he got clear from Radford and he gradually gained on Arnott, who made an effort to regain his lead at the turn in tho ninth lap. Time, 10.2 2-5. Stratton mado the best start and was followed out by McCready and Managh. Coleman led after going a quarter of a mile, and was never passed over tho rest of tho journey. Stratton and Managh had a sterling contest for second place. Managh lay second at tho start of tho third lap but the pair were togelther at the next round. Stratton moved into second place in tho fifth lap and thereafter Managh could not even up with him. McCready finished fourth. Coleman did tho fourth lap in 49 2-5 6cca. Oroua Handicap, of 6 laps:—C. Lowe took tho lead at the third lap and Coleman passed Stratton and Moller for second place,- but was unable to head Lowe, who had a comfortable lead.

The scratch inen rode magnificently to finish so well up and Coleinan and Stratton thrillod the spectators. Coleman caught Nicholls in the last lap and waa closely followed home by Stratton, who, al6o ;ust beat Nicholls in the latter part of the last round. Consolation Race, of 6 laps.—E. Harford, 34 (55e0c.) 1, J. A. Nicholls, 34 (35 see.) 2, 11. McCready, 7 (20sec..) 3. Eleven others started. Harford quickly gained tlio lead and Stratton was unable to overtake his handicap.
