ENTERTAINMENTS

PARAMOUNT. "FISHER'S GHOST.” “Fisher’s Ghost,” now showing at the Paramount, recalls the very mysterious disappearance of a man in Australia who was subsequently found by 1 h-3 authorities after a “ghost” had appeared to one man, and beckoned to tho place wherein the body lay. The story of the film is founded on absolute fact. In the cast are Robert Purdy, Fred Twitchin and Lorraine Esmond as Nell Thompson. The supporting programme includes a Hallroom Boy comedy and a novelty picture on “How to Play Mah Jong.” The Paramount select orchestra, under the direction of Mrs Law, renders a specailly selected programme of incidental music. The box plane are at Swallow’s. “STRANGERS OF THE NIGHT.” “Will I lock up for tho night?” decorously inquired Lush. “Darn it, you’ve done it this time for forty years, why change it now,” demanded the master. But then a loud knocking heralded the presence of someone at the door, and this was the first of several knocks that spelt romance and adventure for tho mild life of Ambrose Applejohn. During _the shooting Fred Niblo's latest production, “Strangers of the Night,” commencing at the Paramount Theatre to-morrow, the studio at Hollywood was turned into a big reception room. This happened to be due to tho marriage of Barbara La Marr to Jack Daugherty, the actor. Miss La Marr has one of the leading roles in “Strangers of the Night,” and tho company became aware of the event, although the time of the ceremony was a secret. Somehow or other the news leaked out and Miss La Marr was pleasantly surprised when she returned to Hollywood from Santa Barbara. The whole cast turned out for the affair. Among those present were Mr Niblo, Enid Bennett, who also plays in her husband’s production, and Matt Moore, who plays opposite Miss Bennett. Of course Miss La Marr herself was there, as well as Robert McKim, tho scheming villain in the picture, also Otto Hoffman and other members of the cast, and Bess Meredyth, who prepared the scenario for “Strangers of the Night, ’ for Mr Niblo. Tiie supporting programme includes the latest Pathe Gazette, scenic and comedy, while a delightful programme of incidental music will be rendered by the Paramount select orchestra under the direction of Mrs Law. The bo:: plans are at Swallow s. PALACE. “LUCK” AND VAUDEVILLE. Johnny Hines is the typical youth the public loves to see. lie is just full of lite and personality and this ia always apparent in all his pictures. This 's especially true of his latest contribution to the enjoyment of the film fans. It is called Luck and boasts of an all-:,tar cast in support of the famous Johnny. With such an outstmidinn- picture as “Luck.” and a hue musical vaudeville act by Stewart and Lorraine, the Palace has a programme to be proud of and the excellently fitted music by the Palace, orchestra helps not a little. I Tijs entertainment will conclude with to-night s showing. ROSY. FRED THOMSON AND SILVER KING. In “The Mask of Lopez,” a thrilling Master Picture, now showing at the Kosv Theatre, Fred Thomson “out-stunts ’ all the so-called stunt artists, and his horse Silver King is the equine marvel of the world. The heroine ra the owner of a ranch which is being gradually depicted of its cattle by a foreman, who is really I.opcz himself. The hero secures a position with the mistress of the ranch, and with the assistance of an ex-convict brings the outlaw and his gang to book. This is great entertainment tor old and young and the picture tells a story that is convincing.
