From Pohanp.ina County Council ask ing for contribution towards Pohangina bridge.—Reply to be sent that matter will receive attention when funde are available. DEPUTATION. Mr A. Robinson waited on the Council and asked for something to be done to improve the road through the Aorangi settlement, which he stated! was in a disgraceful state at present.— The Council replied that the road would be attended to during tine weather. ENGINEER'S REPORT. Owing to the wet went hey the roads where the metal is soft nre in a very sloppy p-tnUi and are giving way in several places. The widening of the Cemetery road k not yet commenced owing to the machine ami scoops being in use. Hiwinui Riding,— Contractors are pushing on with ni*tauing as fast a* possible. The installing of Andrews' road should Mtiuut over for the winter. Had inspected the ford across Orotia River on Furlong's road and find the batik on the eastern side of , the river at the end of the road about 10 feet high, and all the traliio has to go up the river bed for about five chains and then through private property Jf ih« track was straightened by wrmiiu mn of the owner and a few loads of

gravel put on it would be a groat improvement.- The roads in the Hiwinui riding are in fair order with the exception of the Watershed road, to which nothing can be done during the wet weather. All the contracts for metalling have been completed. Re Raukawa bridge : There is at present a low water bridge across the creek or backwater which is not erossabie during high floods in the Manawatu river. To erect a bridge so as to cress during high floods would cost over £o'K) t as embankments or approaches would have to be made about live chains ou each end of the bridge. Oiangnki riding: The roads and streets are in fair order. The excavation of the dram to cut oft the water from the town oart of Ashhurst is about finished. He proposed metalling the footpath to the police station. The punt is working well, RESOLUTIONS. The following were carried :— That the Engineer be instructed to inspect and report on tho bridge on McCrea'e road. That the Engineer be instructed to have a finger post put up at the corner of Makino and Fciiding Cemetery road, stating that the road doe* not lead to Halcombe. Speaking of the nbovo Cr Pearce said that he thought that it was time that posts wore put up at the most important places in the County and pro viding funds would allow to add a few every year. That the Engineer be instructed to repair Honigan's line at a cost not exceeding 20yds metal. That application for renewal of sianghtorim; license be granted to J. Purktas and Son, of Halcombe. That, tho Engineer bo instructed to arrange with Mr Taylor to make ap proach tc grave! pit on his property, Feilding-Ashhurst road, and on consent being obtained to put the work in hand at once. That the Engineer's report on the Feildirg-llalcombe and HalcombeKakariki and Jones' road be adopted. That the Engineer be authorised to carry out work in Oiaugahi Riding as per his report. That the Engineer be instructed to place a hand rail on bridge on the liaukawa-road. That W. Burroll be granted permission to plant willows to protect the bank on Furlong's-road, subjtct to the approval of tbo Engineer. That IL P. Sorensen be appointed ranger for ridings on western side of Oroua river, as per his letter of May 28th. Also that G. Halford bo given one month's notice, and fresh applications be invited for the three ridings on the eastern side of the Oroua river, and further that the necessary steps be taken to establish a pound at Colytoo. That the rangers re-commence their duties oo Monday, June 4tb. That the Engineer bo instructed to report on the overflow of wash water on Mr Corpe'a property, Kimbolton-road.
