(Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, May 31. There is an extraordinary demand for Westport coal in spite of the fact that the Westport collieries are working double time. Steamers have to wait their turn for two or three days before cargoes can be provided. The Westport .Harbour Board have received advice that several large shipping companies in London are now prepared to enter into the foreign trade and urging them to provide the facilities for handling large tonnage. The Board has received authority to extend the eastern breakwater as recommended by the Board's eneineer with a view to increasing the depth of water on the bar. WELLINGTON, May 31. The executive of the Wellington Boxing Association resolved to-nighn: — That in view of the large expenses that have to be incurred by the New Zealand Boxing Council in sending a team to compete at the Australian Championship, the next agreement should provide for pooling all expenses and receipts, and a division of the net profits or loss equally among the subscribers to the agreement. AUCKLAND, May 31. The Auckland Farmers' Provincial Conference opened to day. Mr L. P. Phillips, president, in his opening address, said the trend in the colony was toward unions. It was necessary that those on whom the prosperity of the country depended should combine to secure those things necessary to their' welfare. There were appeals from all over the province for the appointment of an organiser, but the response made to the appeals for funds was so poor that it was impossible to undertake the work. He said the findings of the Land Commission were at variance with the weight of evidence.
