Acclimatisation.

The ro p °rt of the Palmerston submi o Ce °, the Wellington Acclimatisation Society la as follows Ihe paßt year has been without aiw eventH necessitating the regular calling together of the local committee. The work of the Society has, however, been going on steadily and successfully as the 1 following items show. In the matter of tish, 32,000 brown trout and 24,000 rainbow have been liberated. As showing the popularity of angling now: , men ' s licenses, 20 half licenses, *20 boys and 2 ladies' licenses have issued at the Palmerston Post Offiee. In the way of game, six pairs of English pheasants have been put on a reserve, and a further supply will be sent from the Society's game farm after the shooting season. Six pairs of English wild duck bavo been placed on the two preserved lagoons at AwapuniandHokowhitu. At the latter lagoon several broods have been hatched out. Some English partridge are also to be tried shortly. This branch also secured the conviction of some persons shooting duck out of season. It is a matter to be deplored that offenders escaped with merely nominal fines, when the difficulty there ip in securing a clear case is considered. Your committee thinks the general meeting should draw the attention of the authorities to the matter. Only a very small number of shag's heads have been received, although the price has been raised to 2s 6d per head.
