It »'M explained by tho Engineer at the chairman's request that the object of the -proposed deepening and straightening wa*> to scfcleralo the flow* of the stream. It wa« hoped by mean* to also ensure a carrying capacity of equal amount right through, At Sir Guy's request the position sis to j outlet was al«o explained. The Board < had done the work out of rates rather than not clo it nil. About J6IOOO had already been expended. The fact of the outlet beiru deepened and th« lower portion of the stream being widened and deepened would cause the stream to run faster through its whole coarse. The Chairman remarked that it mu,*t be apparent to all that iC things were allowed to go on siM at present, then in some 1U or I t yearn there would bo no stream at all—u would bo ail lilted up. The question was whether they would do the whole work at onee or wait for a Jong tune and get U done piecemeal. Mr G. Hansen seconded the motion and also urged that the job be dune ist onee. Mr Pearce did nof want to oppose the proposal, but as his land would not bent-fit at all he did not see why he should have any additional burden put on him.
