Farmer's Union Conference.
(For Prone Auaoc'atiomV WAHATUA, \Ujr The Conference of the Karmera' Union met to-day., - j Mr Cooper nominated Mtfd.G, Wilson for the position of president. Mr mM tho two greatest men in Now Zealand were the Premier and Mr Wilson. Mr Wilson wa# elected amidst loadr«pplause.Mr Cooper was elected vice-pm-ideat, The Executive Committee elected was as follows: —Went Coast: PeaMWang»nul), Richards (Ta Iloro), Guthrie (Uangiwahia), Captain Hewitt (Palmers* ton), Birch iMarion), Newman (Marton), McLennan (Waituna), Wilaon (Bulb), Stubbu (Palmorston); East Coaat, Perry (Maatorton), Smith <Pahiatua), Bidwell (Featheniton), McFarlana (Konuu,, Nevinn (Tenui), Mathicson (Ekeiahunaj, Cooper flharaua Valley). The following resolutions were carried : ~ 1, That the Government be asked to grant assisted immigration to female domestic servants of good character and of white nationality. 2. That the Government bo asked to make no appointments of Stock Inspectors except where candidates htul passed such examinations in veterinary subject* m Mr Gilroth recommended, 8, Tnat the mottga.e indemnity tax is irritating and unnecc*sary, and that tho Government be asked to amend the law so that those who intmro their workers once against accidentia are not compelled to pay a double tax. 4. That the question of accident in aurance ho referred with the mortgage and indemnity tax to a sub committee appointed to deal with such matterrt,
which will make recommendations con corning the subjects submitted to it. That branches bo recommended to keep a list of stock and produce for sale. 0. That this Conference bring pressure j io bear upon the Government so that hospital and charitable aid votes shall bo made more equitable throughout the colony. 7. That public recognition of our dependence on Almighty God for successful results from our labours is essential to success of a Farmers, Union. 8. That this Conference urge the directors of the Farmers' Union Mutual Insurance Company to raise the limit of rihks. U. That the Mutual Insurance Companies of the North Inland should combine and work from one centre. 10. That the law be so amended that where a flood causes a washout the said work* are riot to be higher than the bank which was washed away, without running the risk of a law action for doing so. J L That the Government be urged to take action to have their lands prevented from being washed away by rivers. Messrs Cooper, McLennan and Peat wero elected to represent Wellington province at the annual Colonial Conference. The Conference closed to night. The delegates to the Conference included the following:— llunterville and Pohonui, A. McGregor ; Mangaweka, M. Tansey ; Rangiwahia, D. H. Gntbrie ; Cheltenham, \V. Mills ; Kimholton, W. Morton ; Feilding, W. G. Pearco and A. R. Mayo : Tiongotea, R. R. McKenzie; Sandon, J. G. Wilson ; Halcotnbe, J Morrison; Pohangina, H. Eraser ; Palmerston 'North, Captain Hewitt and J. Balsiliie ; Shannon, w. Laws, To Horo, 11. J. Richards ; Tokomaru and Linton, ' J.Jackson. Ainonget the matters discussed on the first day wore ; — WAREHOUSE CHARGES. Mr Balsiliie (Palmcrston North) moved, " That the Government authorise tne Agent-General to inquire into the excessive London warehouse charges on wool, with a view of getting the same „ reduced." Mr Newman (Marion) moved as an addition, "That attention be drawn to the unfair practice now in vogue of deducting draft charges of lib in each cwt. of wool sold." Mr Marmington mentioned that a I few years ago the warehouse and other charges on his woo! amounted to 13 per cent of the whole value. The president said it was a trade custom in London, and the executive did not see how they could do anything in the matter. However, they could do no harm by agitating. VETERINARY ADDRESS. Mr Gilruth gave an address on parasitic diseases of .sheep. He impressed upon farmers the necessity of feeding animals well, so as to make them capable of resisting the attacks of parasites. This was as important as using drugs. If the .sheep were kept in good heart by a little dry food, the loss from scour und parasite invasion would cease.
