Per Press Association. - •, MELBOURNE, Hay 30. , In connection with the petitions against Home Hale, Mr Deakin states that some controversy took place over sending them through the GovernorGeneral to the Imperial authorities. The petitions were sent to the GovernorGeneral without reference to his Ministers, and Lord Northcote declined to send them Home. Mr Deakin threw out a hint at the time that the petitions might be sent through him and that he would hand them to the Governor-General but the hint was not taken.
