Accidents and Fatalities.

Matthew Kirkwood was killed on the railway line neariialclutha on Saturday evening, it is supposed he was lying asleep on tlie line and that a slow train ran over him. Ann Doulan, a married woman, aged sixty, residing at Burke's,died suddenly yesterday morning, apparently in a fit. AUCKLAND, This day. A child under two years of aee, the daughter of Mrs Harding, residing m | Brunswick street, Ponsonbv, was drowned by falling into a bath. The; mother found the child kneeling alongside the bath, with her clothes satu- j rate<l with water. On picking her up j she found she was dead. _ NAPIER. This Day. A carter named 'William Maxley was found on Saturday night in tae stables of his employers (J. and W. Prebbles), sifting on the floor witii his back against, the wall and having a severe; fracture in the back of his skull. He died yesterday morning without havine recovered consciousness. Alter having a shave on Saturday night, Maxley expressed his intention of going to the stable to feed the horses, and it is conjectured he must have been kicked by a horse and knocked agamst f't or some other hard substance. NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Obituary. -This morning, Owen Ellis, one of Westlaud's pioneers. He took a prominent part in the Unite.3 Gokl Mining Company and Totara «aler Race Company. Ho wa» aged 66.
