Judge Chapman during his stay at Ciisborne a few days ago experienced the sensation of a mishap to a motor car. He was being taken for a drive in the country. Two cars were travelling close together at a fair speed, when it was found that the road was suddenly blocked bv a dray. One car, with His Honor on board, took the ditch, the other went slap into the dray. Both motors were somewhat crippled, and the Judge was sent back to town in a buggy. A Gisborne syndicate which has taken up the development of a mine of fullers' earth in the Thames district have struck a very good thing. There is a mountain of this mineral, easily mined and requiring no other treatment but.crushing and screening. It is of high value and in large demand not only for toilet purposes. but is used largely in woollen works for taking grease out of wool. O'.her Gisborne folk are interested in the development of cinnabar measures, which h-tve long been known to exist at the Thames, the miners there have but one thought, and that is gold. Samples of cinnabar shown here appear to be very heavy with mercury.
