High School.
The adjourned meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held last night. There were present—The Bev. C. C. Harper (chairman), and Messrs Park, Hirach, "Wood, Barnicoat, and Collingwood. The Reotor was also present. CORRESPONDENCE. From Holben and Kirk, endorsing the action of the Board with regard to the formation of a plumbing class and getting an outside instructor. The firm would also be glad to assist in the formation of the ciass. Members of their staff would also join the class. From J. W. McOall, stating that members of his plumbing staff would also join the'class if established. From the Inspector-General of Schools, 3tating that the Board's application for grant in connection with the plumbing classes could not be dealt with till a
definite application had been received from the controlling authority. Recognised plumbing classes would be eligible for grants for rent and equipment, etc. From the Education Department, forwarding copies of extract from N.Z. Gazette with regard to prizes to be offered for official coat of arms for the colony and suggesting the matter be brought under the attention of scholars. From the Education Board, stating the application for capitation for cookery and woodwork classes could not be granted, salary and expenses "of the instructors not being debited against particular classes. | The Rector reported that the nominal j roll for the term was 160, including— I junior free places 103, senior 25, paying pupils 21, H.S.B. scholars 11. All those holding free places attended more than 80 per cent, of the possible attendance. The actual roll at the end of the term was 157, and the average attendance for tbe term was 151/1-, about 96 per cent. Very satisfactory work had been done during the term. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman announced that the Kairanga County Council had granted £25 to the technical classes. The Rev. I. Jolly and Messrs Pirani and Rutherfurd were granted leave of absence, the latter for one month. The Ground Committee reported that the caretaker's house and the lining of the cookery and woodwork rooms had been completed. Mr Jickell had inspected the school ground and would report at an early date. General details were also reported upon by Mr Barnicoat on behalf of the eommitte.— The report was adopted. Mr Pirani attended at this stage of the meeting. A report from the Finance Committee was discussed in committee, lengthy consideration being given it. On resuming general business Messrs Rutherfurd, Hirsch and the chairman were appointed the Board's representatives on the Technical School Committee.
