Important Resolutions Passed.
WELLINGTON, .May 22. The Friendly Sociotica* Conference spent a considerable time on the discussion of Mr Loaeby'e motion providing that the Act should be amended so that no society could be registered unless it certified that the table of contributions provided is adequate for tho benefits offered. During the debate n delegate said that in oue district out of seven lodges four were unfinancial; in another seven out of ten were unfioaneial ; in another there were three lodges all unfinancial, while yet in another seventeen out of twenty were unfinancial. The motion was carried by 84 votes to 13. The Oddfellows of the Manchester Unity, the American Constitution and the British United gave the motion a block vote. The National Order of Oddfellows voted in the negative. It was resolvedihat no society be allowed to carry on business without having an adequate scale of contributions commensurate with the benefits proposed and approved by a competent actuary, which scale of contributions shall not disturb the contributions of existing member.*, but shall be brought into existence tm a stated date, and shall apply to all those joining alter that date. It was decided that the Aft be amended by extending the power of nomination to sums of not more than £100 instead of not more than £50, and by adding friendly societies' dispensaries to the provident institutions, to which societies may subscribe under rub-section 12 of section 13. A motion was carried giving small lodges power to send balances to their district authorities in order to get the advantage of joint investment. The Conference resolved that on the dissolution of a branch of a registered friendly society all moneys and properties shall be handed over to the central body after all claims and. debts have been paid.
