Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 21. At the Supreme Court, John Schischka, a merchant, pleaded guilty to unlawfully selling manure, to which a false trade mark was applied, and applying a false trade description to certain goods. His Honor inflicted a line of £500, or in default 12 months' imprisonment. His Honor commented very strongly on the ease, and said it was a contemptible fraud to be committed by a person in the high position in the commercial world occupied by accused. DUNEDIN. May A fire broke put about 11 o'clock in the Cafe Continental, carried on by the Misses Samson m Princes-st., with the result that the back dining-room, kitchen, three or four bedrooms and the bathroom were gutted and the staircase badly burnt. The building is owned by Messrs Mitchell and Lake, and is believed to be insured. The Misses Samson are insured in the Standard for £650, the stock and fittings being valued at £1500. The fire appears to have originated in the bedroom of the cook, who left a candle burning -while she went to the bathroom. On returning she found the bedroom in flames.
