BREATHING EXERCISES.

Tuk beneficial effects following upon si regular course of deep breathing exercises has caused particular attention to he given to the system, not only as regards it* application to adults, but more particularly chddren* especially those of a weakly or mode«t and retiring disposition. A report presented to the* meetsng of the Education Board last night, details of which arc published in another column, is con. rincmg as to the improvement noted iu the scholar. l .' at the Board schools* where Mr K. 0. Jarrett, honorary instructor to the Board, given lessons. Thougu tne gtrcn, own»u tO- - instances, has not been of a systematic nature, the results are »uch ? according to the teachers of the schools indicated, as to justify steps with a riew to making the instruction general and regular. The results referred to have followed upon about two years' experiments, andthe'y cannot fail to gratify the parents of the weakly children referred to and be convincing to the teaching staff, who are best able io speak as to the mental advantages noticed. Mr Jarrett, it is not perhaps generally | known, has commenced a pr.vate class for instruction in the system, and it is I pnrtieulary satisfactory to note that his services have been availed of by the College-street School Committee, while there is every probability that the High, School Board of Governors will accept his services at their next meeting. The value of the exercises is so great that the adoption of the system upon scientific lines is a subject that should receive the best attention not only of the Wanganui Education Board but also of the Minister of Education.
