Foxton Notes
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
May 21. The death occurred on Saturday afternoon of Mrs Levett, wife of Mr J, T. Levett, late proprietor of the Manawatu Hotel, Avenue Koad. It appears deceased had been ailing for some considerable time, but had on Thursday taken a change for the better. The event is the more unfortunate as Mr and Mrs Levett and family were presented on Thursday evening with tokens of the esteem of their numerous friends on the eve of their departure from the town. Mrs Levett left her room to attend the function and it is belie ved that th's is what caused the sudden relapse. Deep sympathy is felt m the town for Mr Levett and family in their bereavement. The body will be conveyed to "Wellington on Tuesday for burial.
At about 5 o'clock this morning the residence of Mr G. A. Simpson, Mayor of Foxtoti, was totally destroyed by tire. None of the occupants became aware of the fire until their rooms were ablaze, so that, although the whole family escaped, very little was saved. The origin ot the fire is a mystery, although Mrs Simpson thinks n must have begun in the smoking room. No particulars as to insurance are available.
The Fox ton Tennis Club intend holding their annual ball next "Wednesday evening. The committee have been untiring in their efforts to make every arrangement necessary, so that the affair is likely to prove a great success. Some visitors from Palmerston will probably attend.
