Puffs and Rebuffs.

When will matches start at the appointed time again, I wonder ? Isn't it time the Union arc considering ways and means of securing a bell for the timekeepers—when they are appointed ? One of the referees appointed to control a senior match did not put in an appearance on Saturday. No explanation was offered for his inability to attend. The teams were kept waiting some minutes before a substitute was induced to blow bubblei. And he did, too ! What a broad-minded body of men are associated with the Referees' Association 1 At the last meeting of this society a lengthy discussion took place in an endeavour to dstermine who "Fair Try" was. Now, what do you think of thatßut, funnier stiil, they found oufe ! I propose to expose one of the most peculiar occurrences that has come under my notice for some time in connection with the local Union. At the annual meeticg a resolution was carricd providing for the personnel of the Union to be composed of all " non-players." Well, what do we find '? Included in the Palmerston team that played Old Boys on Saturday was Gus Torstenson, a member of the management committee. Was he eligible to play ? The course I would suggest to Old Boys is this -.—Enter a protest against Palmerston s win, and ask, also, that Torstenson be requested to tender his resignation immediately as a member of the Union. Whatever the result of the protest is, is immaterial, but I contend that Torstenson has no option but to resign. I hope the press wnl be admitted to hear this point settled. A local football enthusiast, who was excitedly cheering 011 his favourite team on Saturday, fell headlong into a water trough. This was another case of " having a wet."
