Tho , weather won stormy at the time and the i night very dark. On tho motorman ex< , amining the women he found ono of them conscious, and in a few moments she recovered enough to stand. She neemed anxiouK to get away, bti& in answer to [ question®, ahe gave her name and address which afterwards proved to bo fal#e. The other woman waa in a bad plight and wan removed to the Hospital, fluttering from a fractured skull. She remained in tho institution all laet night and to-day was unidentified but late thia evening was identified by Alfred Chyno* wcth aa his wife, Catherine, aged 86. She is still unconscious and ia not likely to recover, A broken bottlo of whi»ky was found at the spot whore the accident occurred. Two men who were with the women ran awav, WAIPAWA. This Day. John James Dowd, single, aged 112, was killed while buahfellmg at Gwavan. Tho jury .yesterday returned a verdict of accidental death. Deceased was a native of New South Walss, out was bushfelling at Hampden for about a year. WELLINGTON. This day. Catherine Chynoweth, who was knocked down by a tram car in Kent Tc trace on Wednesday night and severely injured, dkd in the hospital this marring.
