Farmers' Union Conference.
(Por Press Association.) ELIJIAM. May 17. Tho Taranalci Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union now sitting at Eltham, after a long discussion on the blackleg mortality, passed a resolution demanding from the Government compensation for losses causes by inoculation. Resolutions were passed urging continuation of the agitation for the freehold and the necessity for further legislation to promote settlement on native lands. A resolution was passed urging reform of local government and advocating electoral rights in preference to tho present system of ballot at elections. Tho conference rejected a proposal tc the effect that Government should continue the importation of stud borecs, bulla and poultry, A proposal to grant tho freehold to leaseholders of native lands was also rejected.
The Fanners' Conference passed the following resolutions: That the representative of farmers should have a seat at Assessment Courts; That the Conference views with alarm the statement lately reported and made by the Premier in regard to taxation, and protests against the proposal that further taxation be placed on already overburdened farmer. Discussion on Tariff question : Resolution passed that the only fair and equitable way of altering tariff be in the direction of revenue tariff, with preference to British goods carried in British bottoms.
