The Court of Appeal pave a decision yesterday morning on an important question concerning the liability of foreign companies doing business in the colony for payment of income tax. Tho ease was Commissioner of Taxes v Lovcll and Christmas, and the question was whether or rot defendant company was liable to be assessed for income tax in respect of profits. Tho Court said the question was whether a company which sent out agents to the colony each year to make contracts for the disposal by 'be company of produce in London cirricd on a business in New Zealand. The Court held that the defendant company was liable and gave judgment for plaintiff for £1500, each aide to pay their own costs. Leave to appeal to the Privy Council was given. GJ.SUOItMv. May 17.
