Old Boys (2) beat Awapuni (I) Phoenix (4)beat Feilding (1). Y.M.C.A.-Pioneer (4) beat High School (0).

The weather was fine overhead yesterday afternoon when the hockey championships wore advanced a stage, but the morning's rain made the ground slightly greasy. There was a very fair attendance of spectators, the Old BoysAwapuni match receiving most of their attention. Rival factions of "barrackera " made this contest exciting. After a fine game, the result was a win for the shield-holders by a narrow margin. Old Boys v, Awapuni. ~ From the bully this match was a fast open one, attractive from a spectator's point of view, and testing all the resources of the players. Awapuni gave A. Sorensen most of the wing work and his rushes down the line might have ended in score on two or three occasions had the remainder of his forwards been able to keep pace with him. Early in the spell he went right down the line, but lost the ball when centring. The counter attack by Old Boys, ended in some clever passing between Webb and D. Fraser in the circle. A shot at goal seemed certainly successful, but Spencer just touched the bail with his hand and it glanced over the goal. Sorensen commenced another attack but Walkley, Old Boys' goalkeeper, sived finely. After some scrambling play, Awapuni forwards rushed the ball through, Jim Slack being the scoring man. Old Boys were now working well ! together and their superior combination asserted itself. Some fine passing at length resulted in "Webb scoring for them. With the score equal the spell ended, not before Old Bovs had had several unsuccessful shots. The second spell was uneventful, except for another Yellow score, Webb having a successful shot. Old Boys had much £the best of the spell, though there were some smart Awapuni attacks. Old Boys played a fine game, selfishness being conspicuously absent. The half-backs, R. Fraser, K. Drew and Tait, all did brilliant work, and Jones was prominent amongst the backs. D. Fraser and B. Drew, on the wings, and Webb and Crump were the pick of the forwards. For Awapuni, Spencer was safe m goal. A. Sorenson was fast on the wing, and led many an attack. H. Sorenson, at centre-half, was hardly up to his usual form, being too well marked. Mr Foote refereed.

Phoenix v. Feilding.—ln the first spell Phoenix scored three goals, their opponents being without the services of several of their best players. After half-time, however, the visitors woke up a little and managed to get home on one occasion. Before the game ended Phoenix added another goal to the score, the shots being made by Wood 2, Ohilds 1, and Amos 1. Feilding's best men were Goldsbury, McLean, and Pierpoint. Scores:—Phoenix 4, Feilding 1. Mr Tucker refereed.

Y.M.C.A. Pioneer v. High School. — Y.M.C.A.-Pioneer showed an improvement in their methods of play and combination, and easily defeated their opponents by 4 to nil. The winning team was not at its full strength. Mr Watt was referee. Junior Matches. Old Boys (2) defeated Awapuni (0). Campbell-street school (4) defeated High School (0). Old Boys defeated Awapuni by 2 to nil, although the latter was a heavier team. The scoring took place towards the end of the game, Old Boys shooting twice in a very short while.
