The Standard Oil investigation waa resumed in Now York tho other week, when Mr John Archbold, second vicepresident of the Trust, was examined. In the course of his toatimony he stated that Mr John Rockefeller, the president, had not taken an active part in tho Standard Oil management for tho past ton years, and that ho had not attended a directors' meeting for five yeira, bo that it waa of little use to pursue him with tho idea of getting him on tho witness stand.

However, Mr Archbold was able to state that Mr Kockefelicr was willing to testify in thiss ease, if the testimony eould be taken privately, as he had tho utmost dislike of notoriety, and especially abhorred being held up to public ridicule in newspaper caricatures, which always appeared when ho came before tho public in any capacity. Incidentally Mr Archbold declared that the stories of Mr Bockefollor's ill. health were not true.
