The chairman of the Exhibition Hous ing Sub-Committee informed a Lyttelton Times reporter that about 20.000 beds wouia be available for strangers in Christchurch during Exhibition time. The estimate includes! the accommodation supplied by hotels, boardinghouses, and residences that are willing to take in visitors, but it excludes strictly private establishments, which will take in private tiiends. It has been decided to call for applications for the position of accommodation officer, who will have offices and assistants, and will be allowed to charge a fee that will be fixed bv the committee. The officer will act under the committee's instructions entirely, and the committee will therefore have absolute control of the arrangements from beginning to end. The dwellings where accommodation may be obtained will be classified in three divisions "A," "B," and " 0," and the proprietors or landlords will be allowed to fix their own charges. An inspector will be appointed to supervise the houses and see that the sanitary and oth6r arrangements are all that they ought to be. It is proposed to establish one office or bureau m ? at -f? Square in a handsome little building, built on a plan similar to the bureau at St. Louis. will be at the Christchurch station. There will be established at these bureaux recording systems showing the accommodation available at each house on the list. It will be to the interest of those in charge of houses to keep the officers acquainted with the amount o accommodation available fr l om , dav The proprietor of a large and wellknownboardinghouse is making arrange-1 arrangement will meet the wishes of large numbers ot ladies who may not care to go to an hotel or a large boardmghouse,
where mixed boarders are received. The committee will do all it,can to assist in finding accommodation to suit all classes of visitors. It will make special arrangements for members of bands and others who come under engagement to the Exhibition authorities, and in many New Zealand towns, as well as. in steamers, trains and other places where many people gather, it will distribute broadcast large numbers ot guides showing how accommodation may be obtained at the least inconvenience.
