A and P. Association.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mbuawatu A. and P. Association was continued yesterday after we wont to press, the following btminaw being trans* aeted.

The Horse Fair Schedule Committee reported in favour of inserting clause# in the schedule wkh prir.c money totalling JDIO'2 10s, including raeaala. The show to be held on one day only in the autumn of 3P07, at a date to be fixed ; that the general committee make a charge to meiribtrni for admission to the grounds, in moving the adoption of the report, Mr J. M. Johnston referred to the great importance of the horse fair, the suitability of the district and town for the purpose find the probability of holding a successful horticultural show in connection with the fair. Ho asked that the reference to the charge to members for admission to the grounds be treated s» a separate report. Mr Cohen spoke strongly against the latter proposition, stating that in hi# opinion members wort* entitled to »H ; privileges arising from membership, lie said that the true progress of the Association dated from the time the Spring and "Winter Shows were united and members admitted to all privileges. Before that, though the town and dis-1 trict had progressed by leaps and bonnet", the Association remained at a standstill, but the year after the unification of the shows th« progress was very marked and real. He thought that the proposition would upset the principle that had been successful and that the more that could be given members the more they would roll up. He thought tbev should act on penny postage principles, the cheaper it was made the more they would get. Replying, Mr Johnston quoted details in connection with the Winter Show fixture. He admitted giving the privilege mentioned by Mr Cohen had increased the membership roll, but suggested it also might have como from the property and progress of the district. He did not think the financial jump could he attributed to the Winter Show only, still if it paid to give aa much for the money aa possible, by all means give it. If Mr Cohen's contentions were right regarding the Winter Show, it would uI»o hold good with regard to the Horse Show, and the membership list, be increased. If bo, he was quite prepared to five the privilege, hut he thought nil the same a charge should be made the first- year.

ft was decided to delete the proposal to charge members for admission to the grounds from the report. Messrs iI. Booth and Gillies thought the horse fair would prove iniurious to the horse section of the Spring Show. Thev were opposed to the proposition. Mr Cohen strongly supported the proposal, «'ln;h lie thought. a step in the right direction. It might form the nucleus of a great commercial institilium and the town become the centre of a horse trade Mieh as obtained in other suitable places. lie moved that the mutter be referred to the Finance Committee to report upon the fund-; and po<-i----t on of the Association in March, 1007, as regarded, the proposed show. Mr K, Stevens said he thought the Association was going too far. lie thought a fourth .-.how would be too big a drag oil members' time —his at any rate —and as he always believed m doing his duty he would have to resign if the fourtSi show was decided upon. Mr Johnson, replying, said be had no objection to .Mr Cohen's motion which he thought a proper proceeding As regards Mr Gillies' objections he wished the latter would look at the matter from a point of progress, Mr McKen;de moved and it wan decided that the Horse Schedule Committo? act with the Horse Fair Committee. Air S'.uchey suggested pure bred draught stock be included in the schedule, and the suggestion was acted upon. The Library sub-committee recommended that the list of books prepared by Professor Lowrie, and supplied by him to the Borough Council, be purchased, and that arrangements lor same be left to Messrs Cohen and d. M. Johnston. The Art aud Industrial Committee reported that *t a meeting held on May "»th Messrs Watson and Maclean were present on behalf of the Camera Club. It was recommended that eleven classes be added totalling in prizes JCI6 10s, and !wo junior classes t'2 ."is. An entry of between '200 and :)00 is anticipated. Mr Fairbrothcr attended in connection with the school classes. The schedule of classes drawn up was approved and adopted and the Institute thanked Prices total x\l Ms G-J. .Recommendations for the horticultural and industrial classes were approved, the increase of prizes totalling The secretary was instructed to confer with Mr Elliot, art master, aud report to the committee. The committee appointed with regard to life-membership regulations receommended that in future the fee be ,CI2 instead of £10 as formerly. The report was adopted. Mr ,i. M. Johnston moved that a committee comprising the President and Messrs i.)unk, Pratt, Cohen, Stuckey, Simmouds, Wheeler, Jacob, Lancaster, Wallis and Luxford consider and approve of the names submitted from the sehedjile committee as judges, and report to the genera! committee for final approval; no name to be submitted as a judge who has not had previous experience and given satisfaction in the ring.—Carried.
