The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu A. and 15.I 5 . Association was held to-day. There wan a very fair attendance of members and the I resident, Mr I*. A. McHardy, occupied the chair. COR RESPON DEN CE. From Qui bell Bros., offering a silver cup for the best three lleecen of wool, anv breed, .sent in by owners of pedigree flocks. The only stipulation was that the cup was to become the absolute property of the winner and way to be known as the " Quibell Cup." Other details wt-re left to the committee.— Referred to sheep schedule committee From the Manaia Horticultural Association, expressing the opinion that all agricultural societies should nominate one person for the Agricultural Implement Enquiry Board, and asking whom this Association intended to nominate. —Attended to. From E. Shortt, Waitima, stating he wished to compete in the sheep class, pen of 5 Romuev nun hoggets, to which he had given special prizes totalling JL'ls, and it his sheep were sucvessful the prizes to go to the Palmerston Hospital funds. —A vote of thanks accorded Mr Shortt. From Dal get y and Co., applying for participation in use of the show grounds on ram fair days decided upon.—Referred to Sheep Schedule Committee. MISCKLLANEOrS. j A letter from Mr 11. Campbell. Havelock North. 11.U.. with regard to the allegations made against him as regarded entries of sheep, was received, and after considering same a motion of censure was passed, and will be communicated to Mr Campbell. Winter Show, Mr .1. M. Johnston pre- . sented a financial report, dealing with * Winter Show matters. He stated the steps taken in this connection would 3 not impair the Association's resources. ' The report of the Winter Show was ' adopted, subject to the amendment of r the Finance Committee.
A recommendation from the Horse Schedule Committee that no judge should oflieiate in any class of horses or ponies in which any animals that competed were of direct or indirect interest to him was rejected, members considering it would he almost impossible to state where the term* " direct " and " indirect " commenced and ended. Messrs 11. M. Simmonds, J, Strang, Pratt. Dunk and Jarvis were appointed to the Committee of the Manawatu Kennel Club. The Dairy Committee appointed with regard to the butter test competition reported as follows: — The competition to be for pen of one cow. Entries limited to two front any one exhibitor. The first three yearly competitions will be open to any "breed, grade or cross. Thereafter to a cow gotten by a purebred bull entered in a recognised herd book or eligible for entry in euiue. Onua of proof to be supplied bv exhibitor. Excepting that any exhibit winnintr a first prize in the iirnt three years will be allowed to remain in competition in succeeding years. Prize money for the first three placed animals, £10, £6, i' 4. and a championship prize of £25 to be won in three yearly competitions not necessarily in succession. The prize to he won by the exhibitor and not necessarily the name cow. Prizes to be awarded to the lirat three cows in order of merit, and points to be competed a= under:— One point for every pound of milk taking the average of f.mr Jays' yield. Twenty-Jive points for evt-ry pound or butter" fat produced. Cow* to be in possession of the Association for ten days, the butter fat test to be made on the last four days. The last four days (under the supervision of the Society's , representatives) the milk will be weighed and samples taken from each milking and finally tested, when prizes will be awarded iu accordance with the results obtained. The cows will be kept iu good grass under natural conditions (other than optional to rug) with no artificial feed whatever. All exhibits will be eared for by the Association, but it is a condition of entry that such are entirely at owner's risk. No exhibitor allowed injthc sheds whetj milking or testing is being carried on, including any member or otlicial of committe who may be an exhibitor. All exhibits will be labelled with brass tags and numerically numbered for the purpose of reference during the competition. The first seven cows placed highest in each yearly test will be placed on exhibition at the Spring Show on the -nd and 3rd days. The Association reserves the right of reviving the conditions or terminating the competition should it be deemed necessary such to be done within three months .succeeding date of competition.
