The purity and percentage of ultramarine determine the bleaching properties of Blue. Laundry Blue is made up of ultramarine, in combination with glucose or some other substance, to bind the particles into a nob. It is the ultramarine that is of value, for it does the bleaching. Some Blues contain an excess of binding matter, others are made of inferior ultramarine, while some contain the faults of both.
