Bambaata's Rebellion.

{By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) Press Association.) MELBOURNE, May 14. Following is tlie text of Mr Deakin's cable in connection to the Natal question : — Since the intervention of a Minister of the United Kingdom with the administration of the self-govern-ing colony of Natal would tend to establish, even with regard to the prerogative of pardon, a dangerous precedent affecting all States within the Empire, we respectfully appeal for a reconsideration of the resolution which they are reported to have arrived at on the matter." Mr Deakin says the reason he withheld the telegram in the first instance from the public was that he was anxious that his action should not be used for party purposes in England. (Received May 15, at 8.56 a.m.) PIETERMARITZBU.RG, May U. Colonel Smith chased the Mt. Elis rebels across the Buffalo River into Nortu. Several were killed in crossing and six surrendered. Each carried four assegais and a shield. Bambaata and Signandi have quarrelled. The former has a few followers and has entered the almost impenetrable Emone bush. There is a growing impression that Bambaata wishes to leave the rebels in the lurch.
