At the last meeting of the school committee it was definitely decided to establish a technical school. The projected District High School will also be | started if sufficient pupils are forthcoming. An election for the otiiee of Mayor was held here on Friday. Polling was not verv brisk during the day. There were three candidates, Messrs S. H. Baker, G. Simpson, and G. Gray, Mr Simpson was elected Mayor by a large majority. Foxton just now seems to be making a move forward on the road of progress. Numerous large private residences are being built in the precincts of the town, which is assuming a more lively appearance. The value of town sections fs rapidly rising, the flaxmillsare in full swing," and the wharf in fully occupied with steamers discharging coal, special trains running almost daily to and from Palinerston. Moreover, the rope works are nearing completion, and so will soon be working, | souk 1 i>f the hands having already arrived.
