The N. Z. Loan . and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Palmerston North, report as follows:-—

During the week sales have, been held at Himatahgi, Apiti arid Palmerston North, and clearing sales at Mr H.* F. Phillips', Awahuri, and at Mr Adam Linton's, Marton.

At Himatangi on. Monday there was a fair yarding of cattle, cousisting principally of forward steers, which met with a good sale. Other cattle met with very little demand.

-At Apiti a fair, yarding, of sheep-and cattle came forward.-Sheep .sold well, hoggets-making up'toiss;'6d,'while' the' demand for young, cattle was 'good.'.; A choice line of springing heifers brought £5 12s under the hammer. . At the request of the Apiti settlers we have decided to hold fortnightly sales during the summer months. The"next sale will be held on Wednesday,-19th.inst. At Palmerston North a small yarding of cattle came forward, mostly of inferior quality. A good line of shorthorn, and Polled Angus yearlings made £3 4s. At ''Mr Phillips' sale of dairy stock there was a large attendance, and the cows, which were in splendid condition, were eagerly competed forj' several making £10 15s and the whole herd of 35 averaging £8, and the heifers. £5 12s.

At Mr Adarii Linton's sale there was a good attendance, of the public, the cows just calved, and close to calving in good condition sold up to^ £8 ss, but backward sorts were neglected.' Sheep sold well and horses and implements made full value. Quotations: —

Weaners, 255; yearling heifers, £2 4s to £2 8s; empty heifers, £2135, £3 and £3 10s; -springing, heifers; £4 6s, £412s 6d,. £4;15s ■ "arid £5125;. 2-yr heifers; £3; store cows, £3 to £3 12s; springing, cows, £4*.. 10s, £5- arid £6 ; yearling steers, £2 4s,- £2.85, £2,7s 6d, £21356 d; 18-months steers, £3 35;:2----year steers, £3 15s, £4 ss; bulls, £2, £2 5s and £2 9s. Horses: Spring cart mare, £28 ; unbroken half draught, £26 10s; hacks, £6 15s to £14.

Palmerston North.—Sheep: Merino wethers 18s. Cattle:. Weaners 25s to 37s 6d, yearlings £2 3s, station bred yearlings £3 4s, empty heifers £3 2s, store cows £3 to £3 4s, cows in calf£3 10s, springing cows £5 10s, heifers in calf £3 15s, fat cows £5 2s 6d to £5 7s 6d, 2-year steers £4 is, 18-months steers £395.

At A. L. Linton's.—Sheep : Hoggets 15s8d, ewes and lambs 20s lid. Cattle: Yearlings £2 2s, store cows £210s, heifers in calf £3 6s to £4, dairy cows up to £8 ss. Horses: Brood mares £9 5s and £9.105, yearlings £7 10s to £8 10s, hacks, £5 to £12 10s, 3-year filly ±'18.
