A Clerical Review of "Barab-
bas."
The Bey. John Nairn, of- Bailarat, in the course of his sermon last night (7th January, .1901), sp_oke on the sacred drama, making special reference to the recent production of "Barabbas." He. said the reading world . was startled a few years ago by the publication of Marie Corelli's work", " Barabbas." The other evening -he attended Her Majesty's Theatre to witness t: Barabbas." He wanted it to be understood that "he was not going to discuss the' stage in general, but only that drama as it appeared to him. The acting of the .leading artists was, to his mihdj-perfect,. arid conveyed to the mind the great lessons of the story. Just as the church in her services of picture found that the best method to reach a section of the community, so he' believed that.theplay in.itself,was. caU, cula 4ed to/impress :a large nuiiiber of people who could not otherwise'be reached. If the'work of tlie stage could be kept to-the.-level of a play like- ""Barabbas," its influence could, not fail to' be healthy. .... .He found nothing, in it he. would not like his child .to see or. .hear. ."Barabbas" will be staged at.the Zealandia Hall on Tncsday, October 11th. The box plan is how oven at Paries. . . .■'..■.-
