SYDNEY, This day,
Mr Carruthers hopes to alter the status of the State Governorship to that obtaining in Canada. Civil Service salaries will not be touched, but by regrading and promotions £150,000 per annum will be saved for three years. The Agency-General will be abolished. The Local Government Bill will be the chie£_ work of next session. Loan expenditure on public works could, without injury to the community, be reduced to a million annually. During the present year £2.400,000 will be required to be borrowed to meet loans falling due.

The dispute over the use of the Murray waters betwean this'state and Victoria has reached a stage who~e the Government have authorised the preparation of a brief for counsel's opinion. The Government are> determined to enforce their rights against the other States. The Victorian Water Bill, at present before the House, dealing with schemes for the use of the Murray water is regarded as striking severely at the interests of South Australia.

The-Assembly has passed a resolution asking the colonial office to reconsider the appointment of State Governors so as to permit of their duties.being undertaken by the Chief Justice.
