An Editor on the Warpath.
—o The editor of thcJDunstan Times has forwarded a letter to the Kugby Union in regard to. the ■ cpnduct of the Otago team' -while in Clyde and Alexandra. He complained that, five loud cheers were given by a parky, consisting of the manager, the captain, the referee, and at least two" other players, in the main street of Clyde on! Sunday afternoon, that the party paraded the street, to all appearances! the wprse for liquor.; that they drove through;the streets \vitlr champagne bottles attached to every conspicuous part of their vehicle; that they waved and. gesticulated and called out to the townspeople whom they met. A number of letters from Clyde residents, forwarded in support of the charges, were also read. A letter, signed by a number of residents of Alexandraj speaking in the highest terms of the conduct of the team there was also read. -. The Union passed a motion-regretting that the editor had made charges against, the members '■ of the team in -Alexandra, which he now: admitted were unfounded. In regard to the affair at, Clyde, the Union decided that the members of the- team who visited_ Clyde "were guilty of indiscretion in giving, war whoops and cheers on Sunday, and allowing champagne bottles to be" attached to their vehicles, but that there was no • evidence' -before;them of the drunkenness and beer! swilling which.were,, the most serious portions of. the charges, and. that the editor be asked, if possible, to obtain for the committee some evidence of the drunkenness and beer swilling complained of, and that failing the receipt of such evidence the matter be allo\ved to drop.
