_ The AnglicanvChurch Assombly negatived a motion protesting against'the opening of the public library and art gallery on Sundays. During the censure debate Mr Quick denounced the dissident Protectionists for the desertion of their party.
(Received Sept. 30, at 9.31 a.m.) BRISBANE, Sept. 30. In the Assembly the Premier read a communication in which - Sir H. C. Ghermside announced his resignation of governorship of the - state. - He mentioned m May that he had notified the Secretary; of State fbr the Colonies that he desired, after proceeding on leave of absence, to tender -his-'resignation.' It was .understood ;he;-c6xiid. now absent himself-without inconvenience to public business. "Sir H. : C.-.Chermside added that in leaving Queensland he had a very high interest .and belief in' its future. • He expressed the warmest appreciation for' the kindness he had always received. The Premier stated Sir H. C. Chermside had informed him of his intention in June, but in view of the unsettled political situation it was deemed expedient to delay action. Sir H. C. Chermside's. resignation is an outcome of the action taken by the Australian .Parliament with the object of reducing the status 'and emoluments of state governors. Messrs Morgan and Philp paid a high tribute to Sir H. 0. Chermside, and: general regret; was expressed at his retiroment.. He departs in a few days oh'three months' leave of absence,'at.the end of which his resignation takes- effect. ;' '\ :'
