Municipal Band Concert.

_ There was a limited attendance at the Zcalandia Hal] last night when the Municipal Band's concert was' held. A most attractive programme had been prepared, both vocal and instrumental, and it certainly deserved a better fate than, rows of empty benches. In addition the deserving object;of the concert —the replenishment of the Band's exchequer—"should have •"•enlisted' the practical sympathy of ,its supporters. Ihe lady vocalists of the" evening were' Mrs C. Louisson and -Miss Chandler. Ihe former was heard to great advantage m » Close to the Threshold," which suited her sympathetic voice admirably. She responded to the inevitable encore with a dainty morceau that was as distincttypleasing as her first effort. Miss Chandler was equally successful in the ever pleasing and'pretty composition "Island of Dreams," which she sang with a charming effect that was only equalled by her.next number, "The Wakening of Spring." Messrs A. Bennett, Luke, and P. •Williams also contributed vocal items in excellent style. The instrumental portion of the programme was contributed by Messrs J. Parker (cornet solo) and W. Staines (euphonium solo), both players receiving well merited encores. Mr P. Mattson played a violin solo and several obligates during the evening and Mr P. Tombs, pianoforte solos, in addition to playing the accompaniments.
