The Scottish Entertainers.

The N.Z. Times, in referring to the above entertainers, who appear at the Zealandia Hall on October 4 and 5, says:—There is in every colonial communitya strong Scotch element, sympathetic towards those fresh from the native heath, and liberal in their patronage to the entertainers who claim the? songs and stories of Scotland for their own. This kindly sympathy went out at once to Miss Flora Donaldson and Mr Gavin Spence, who, although unknown to a Wellington audience until yesternight, can claim to have made hosts of friends by the excellence of the entertainment which served to introduce them here. It is the " auld sangs " that appeal to the average heart, and it was the old folk especially who, last evening, were delighted with the recital of Scottish story and the singing of Scottish song that these two performers gave in such characteristic and .pleasing style. Miss Donaldson, possessed of a vigorous cultivated soprano, -.and Mr. Gavin Spence, full of' Scottish humour and incident, between them submitted a programme. • that met with the genuine appreciation, not only of those to whom the traditions of Scotland are most dear, but also of those who by reason of association have learned to love many of the charming Scottish ballads. Mr Spence varies his performances by explaining with interesting detail the incidents that gave rise to the composition of songs cherished by every Scotsman, while Miss Donaldson, by.her excellent interpretation, aids in the presentation of a programme that is throughout very enjoyable. •
