Ashhurst District.

(To the .Editor)

&ib,—l saw a letter from "A Resident " m your paper, and after reading it two or three times I am not sure whether it is meant for fun, or whether the writer is suffering from biliousness, as everything appears so dismal from his point of view. I don't know anything about the Ashhurst loan, but if he is a resident.of Ashhurst arid can't see or cry anything but stinking fish, why stay there ? Why not come and live at Hiwmui or Bunnythorpe ? But there is a suspicion that the real cause of his letter is the Grove-road, and that when it is made ho is afraid we shall go to Palmerston without passing through Ashhurst. Well, if it is any consolation to him we don't go through Ashhurst to Pahnerston now, and when the Groveroad is made we do not expect it .will be detrimental to Ashhurst in1 the slightest degree. He says making "the Grove Road will facilitate, the running of carts from Palmerston business houses, and this makes me thiuk that probably "A Resident" is connected with business. If he is it shows a terrible weakness on his part, for surely carts cannot travel eight miles from Pal-' merston where they have to pay bi" rents, wages, etc.; and; cut Ashhurst carts out, when they have only three lniies to come and less expenses. Another thing it's the article and the price we consider every time, and-putting a barb .wire fence around us wont keep us from getting is either, and that is one of the reasons wo often find time to run to Ashhurst. "Resident" keep your tail up.-lam&c, ■, ■■••'■.•■■••.■■
