Twine Factory.
At Shannon on Wednesday Mr John Davis addressed a poorly-attended meeting on the subject of starting a twjne factory there. Mr Da7is said the time had arrived when something should be done to utilise the itow from the flaxmills. At present it wa3 a waste product, but by employing suitable machinery it could be manufactured into binder and seaming twine at a good profit. A-number of the millers in the district had offered him the tow for nothing if he would take it; away. This he did not agree with, as a company,, if formed, could well afford to give the millers £3 per ton for tow. He estimated that it would cost, say, £305 L to start such a concern. '1 his sum he made up as follows—Land and buildings, £750; freight on machinery, £100; working capital, £500; twine plant, comprising one hackling machine, i£2Bo; one first drawing machine, £110; ono second drawing machine, £ 120; eight automatic spinning machines, each with two spindles, at £90, £720.; groes total of twine plant, £1230; engine, £450. Such a plant would be capable of turning ou6 abous a ton of twine per day of 12 bours, foe which the labour required would be as follows:—A manager, enginedriver, four men and four lads. He estimates the working expenses for twelve months to total £3107, which should leave an eaumated profit, including interest on. capital of, say, £2271. The mepting decided to further consider the matter at a meeting to be held in a week's time. - :
